When connecting to the application server several times it gives an error as in the subject and then after a few trials it goes through. Intermittent failures on connection. when trying to join domain i failed with errors indicating that DNS was not resolving the domain name. Or Domain name server not found. This indicated DNS resolution failure. Upon trying multiple times i managed to resolve and worked. Just like what happened for connecting to the server when i check the event log i found this Found error message: "The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "000020E3: SvcErr: DSID-031B061F, problem 5002 (UNAVAILABLE), data 0". The event data contains the error." in the event log. plse help me to to find out what is the reason for this failure. My dns run windows 2000 and application server is windows 2003 server

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Sounds like a dodgy SRV record. Are you running integrated DNS? You could try trashing your primary DNS and then copying the secondary DNS zone file back to the server after you reinstall it. Have you checked that PTR records are being added/removed? If you perform an nslookup for the app server does your DNS reply with the correct record or does it throw up and error? Is the machine account in the AD ok? Are your DCs replicating correctly? Have you checked the GUIDs of the servers listed in the DNS, to see if dead ones are being referred to?
