Problems with E-Mail Receipient Addresses

I'm having trouble finding the setting to turn off for a problem that I'm having with mail delivery. If a user's name is John Doe and he is the only person with that last name in the Domino Directory he will receive e-mail sent to doe@domain.com, even though his e-mail address should be jdoe@dominan.com this has also happened on a unique first name which is even more puzzling. Is there a setting that I can set to only exact matches and reject partial matches in the directory?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Yes there is, but I don’t know quite where it is in the inbound SMTP server settings. You have to basically enforce complete name matches only. This will also prevent a spammer or virus from getting into your system by using “john@domain.com, mary@domain.com, etc.”

I know this is not a complete answer, but I hope it helps anyway.

We were having a lot of problems with spam getting into our system because it was coming in as "jane@domain.com," "joe@domain.com" -- and if they happened to hit on a unique enough first or last name, well, our trusting system ASSUMED it meant "unique.odd@domain.com" and sent it along. As an anti-spam measure, our Domino Administrators (I'm the End-User Support Administrator)made a change to the way names are read and accepted by the SMTP server -- it must now match EXACTLY to a full Internet name, or it is rejected. We made no changes that I know of to the registration of users or the fields and the way they are used. The Address Book format is unchanged, our ID Management system is unchanged (at least, on the front end). I really think this was a not terribly complicated change, something like changing from "make your best guess," to "verified addresses only." I simply don't know where this setting is.

Yes, there is a relevant setting in the server configuration document: section Router/SMTP, tab Basics, Field 'Address lookup' can be set to 'Fullname only'. Probably that's what you mean.

There is a setting in the Domino server document on the 'Security' tab that can be changed to allow acceptance of fewer variations in user names. Change the setting under the 'Internet Access' portion to "Fewer name variations with higher security" rather than "More name variations with lower security." This will allow messages in if addressed only 3 different ways: common name (John Doe), Notes hierarchical name (John Doe/Marketing/Acme), and Internet Address (John_Doe@acme.com). There is also a setting in the configuration document (which you may need to create if you don't already have one) on the 'Router/SMTP' tab. Change 'Address lookup' to "Full name only."

Thanks to everyone eho responded, changing the setting on the Address Lookup to Fullname Only and restarting the router task did the trick.
