Can anyone help - when CISCO VPN client is installed on my laptop(windows XP), I can't VPN to any other networks. Even if the CISCO client is not connected, it prohibits any other VPN connections.

Hello,
Cisco VPN client v4.6.01 and higher (may be lower) is supposed to be compatible with other VPN clients (MS, Nortel, …).
But I learnt through my experience with VPN clients that mixing VPN clients from different providers on a 2K/XP PC is not something I would recommend. It may requires careful installation order.

? are you trying to vpn out from behind a pix? ? what SP is on your XP? ? what version of cisco vpn client do you have ? the latest ver. 4.0.5 (c) ? is there a firewall installed on your computer ? disable it and try again. * try to enable the log and see where it fails. * recheck the groupname and password & ip of the firewall. * remake the profile with a different groupname. * check connection to the ip firewall (ping it, see if you get responce) * check the "Cisco Systems, Inc. VPN Service" service in the services under manager, see if it's running, try restart it.. if all these thing don't work remove the vpn client and install it again.

My first question would be are you connecting to a Pix for VPN access or a concentrator? What other VPN clients do you have on the laptop outside of the Microsoft built in VPN client? If there are others installed, are they using the same DNE driver? (Deterministic Network Enhancer) If they are not and they are using their own driver then I would suggest unchecking that driver in your network control panel just for starters and troublehsooting?

I agree with the others. You need to make sure that no other VPN client is installed. Including any Micorsoft VPN locations. Also you need to try without being behind any filtering router or firewall. You should also ask the administrator of the device that you are connecting (if that is not you) to look at the logs on the device you are connecting to. This should give you a starting place.

We're running Cisco 4.03 and the Win VPN. In order to establish other connections the Cisco Service needs to be stopped. Try stopping the service and then connect with the other VPN.
