SQL Server installation
I am having problems installing SQL Server 2012 on 64-bit windows 8. Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Click setup.exe and wait for the installation center to come up.
  • Click "New SQL Server stand-alone installation" and then the Setup Support Rules page comes up.
    I click OK
  • Input the product key and click Next
  • Accept the license terms and click Next
  • Press next again and the installation seems to start.
Another window pops up stating that the following activities will take place:

  • Scan for product updates
  • Download setup files
  • Extract setup files
  • Install setup files.

Instead of all this happening, the window just disappears. Installation does not appear to have taken place and there is no error message to verify what happened. Did I miss something or do something wrong?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I’m getting the same problem :(

I’ve tried on another computer with success, but not my own. They’re both Win7 Ultimate.

From the working installation I can see that log files are created at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Log but I don’t have enough knowledge to determine whether the “issues” listed in my failing installation are significant or not.

I did have my Sophos firewall/virus checker turned on at one stage, but I’ve tried since with it turned off with no luck.

Being new to the SQL Server game I think I may have had a successful installation on the “failing machine” in my early attempts but because of connection problems I thought it was the installation that was bad; uninstalled ALL SQL servers on my machine; and tried again. Now I’ve not been able to complete a successful installation.

I hope someone out there knows what we both should do!

BTW, I’m using SQL Server 2012 EXPRESS, but apart from the license questions, the behaviour I saw was the same as ITKE’s.

I thought of trying the “Upgrade” path, but wasn’t game to. My 2008 versions (used with other software) might break?
