I am trying to load Kaspersky 2009 on my pc at home but when trying to install a message comes up saying incompatible software is installed. It says the software is AVG 8 but i have removed all my AVG programs already? Any solutions would be appreciated.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Sometimes installation of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 2009 can be hindered by the “remains” of AVG8 in the system, although AVG8 was successfully removed and the system was restarted.

Prior to copying the installation files onto the hard drive, the Configuration Wizard checks the computer for third-party software incompatible with Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 2009. The records of AVG8 in the system registry are identified by the Wizard as a fully installed and functioning anti-virus AVG8 although the product has already been uninstalled. As a result the Configuration Wizard asks to manually uninstall the incompatible software and interrupts the installation.

To resolve the situation you should do the following:

* Interrupt the current installation of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 2009
* download the archive avg8.zip
* unpack all files from the archive avg8.zip into one folder
* run the file KLeaner.exe
* wait until the utility finishes its work
* restart your PC
* rerun installation of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 2009

Official Info for Installing version 2009

If you’re upgrading to version 2009 from version 7.0/6.0/5.0, then i would strongly recommend that you uninstall 6.0/7.0 or any other previous version (this includes AV’s from other vendors!)……. completely only keeping the activationdata of the possiblities you have to save data when you uninstall and reboot before proceeding, this is very important because version 2009 is quite different from previous versions. If you previously have had other anti-viruses installed then I would recommend you have a look at this sticky, Norton removal steps are very important even after you have removed normally via add/remove programs!

You can download version 2009 here.

If you have problems uninstalling Kaspersky, then there is a removaltool you can use to uninstall, look Here for instructions. Removal utility allows uninstalling the following products:

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0\7.0\2009
Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0\7.0\2009
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers

For Kaspersky 5.0 you can download the tool here, for 4.0/4.5 here. all these tools are very effective in safemode.

Some users will need to contact support for a replacementkey if they for example are using multiyear keys originally bought for older versions than 6.0, link to Helpdesk ……here

Safemode:

Windows XP

If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a “keyboard error” message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

To use the System Configuration Utility method
Close all open programs.
Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the “/SAFEBOOT” option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
The computer restarts in Safe mode.
Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck “/SAFEBOOT” and click OK to restart your computer

Windows Vista

Windows Vista is similar to Windows XP for starting in Safe Mode.

Turn the computer on or Restart the computer
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a “keyboard error” message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected (the top option)
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.
