I have just taken delivery of a new HP ML350 server today.
When I powered it up the CD drive appeared to be dead. I removed the IDE cable and when I powered up again, the CD had power. I replaced the IDE cable with another new one and tried again - same thing.
I then tried the drive in another computer with the IDE cable it was supplied with and it worked fine without any problems.
So, where can I go next? Back to the suppliers?

hold on a sec…check your jumper, if it is a single drive on a single IDE cable and your jumper is on CS, change it to master and then try it…ran into that the other day, i loaded windows server 2003 on a machine, installed all my software, then all of a sudden the machine didn’t see the drive anymore, (jumper was on slave) changed it to master and everything was fine…
