Problem with adding a member server as a domain controller

DNS errors, Active Directory, Windows Server 2003, Domain controller, DCpromote

I am adding a windows 2003 enterprise server to my existing domain. Active directory accepts the new server as a member but will not recognise it during dcpromo to domain controller.Possible dns errors causing this ?

It is quite possible that it is a DNS problem. What the problem is would be hard to say without further information.

I would check to be sure the DNS servers the server is pointed to are running an AD integrated domain for the domain you are trying to promote teh server to, check that you have enough permissions to actually do the DCPROMO and if all else fails try to install DNS on the server itself.
