Problem rejoining server to domain

Hi,
We had to restore a W2K3 server from backup, including the system state. The server recovered ok but was not able to connect to the domain, so we removed it from the domain, rebooted, removed all traces of the server from AD and DNS, and tried to rejoin, but we get the messageĀ "An error occured when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain xxx"
The error was : "An invalid argument was supplied." (error code 0x00002726 WSAEINVAL) the query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.xxx.ad I can ping the dc's, nslookup works ok, and I can join the domain using the netbios name, but it doesn't register in DNS and a load of issues occur, such as not being able to rdp using domain accounts. I'm thinking I may need to do a repair from the OS CD. Anybody have any ideas?

Do you have it patched with the most current updates?

yes, and the HP Proliant Service Pack. Another thing i've noticed is that the COM+ system Application Service isn't running. When I try to start it I get Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.
