Dear All,
My Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition (its a Oracle Database Server) doesn't moves from "Applying computer settings". but when i disable the Veritas and SQL Manager from the statup and MSSQL$BKUPEXEC Service its works. The system is starting as normal, but when i enable the veritas and remove the network cable then also it works (but it doesn't works when the Veritas is enabled in the started and the network cable plugged in) but now niether i able to start my Vertitas service nor the MS SQL server starts and also my Symantec is disabled.

DISONNECT from the network! You have a VIRUS - there is a known flaw in Veritas backup and exploits are on the 'net. On a separate machine download the patches for Veritas, the latest updates for Windows 2003 and your anti-virus software. Install the patches, windows updates, and run the updated Anti-Virus software. THEN you can reconnect to the network. If you have not already subscribed to the free Microsoft security notices list, please do so.

The days of a month from flaw to virus in the 'wild', are over. This flaw was reported 3 weeks ago and viruses caught on the internet for the last week to ten days.

God luck and be cautious.

Hi there,
You gona have to reinstall your server!
It seems like u were hit by a virus or something or someone tried and did get a remote login to your system and corrupted some parts of your OS!The problem that dissapears when u unplug your network cable is certainly some virus or something that connects to the server! After reinstallation of your server make sure you have the latest patches and antivirus software and updates installed, and if using a firewall that it be configured to max security levels!

Good luck

If you have a service startup error of some kind first Check your event viewer to see which services are not starting correctly. There should be some clues in the log file. If your sql service is not starting automatically check to see whether it will start manually. I had this problem in NT and cured it by removing the veritas and reinstalling it and rebuilding the scheduler.
