Hi all, I have a PF named as P1 and corresponding LF named as L1, when I try to compile them in QTEMP they are working fine and creating objects for both of them. but when I try to compile them in our Test Environment, the object is not creating for the LF. The error message I got in the spool is.." the P1 not allowed as based on file". Can anyone please tell me what might be the reason? Thanks!

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

You cant be able to create a logical file based on Physical file which is in QTEMP. Make sure PF is also in same library in which you want to create LF.

The reason is that the PF is not valid for the LF you want to create. We can't tell you why unless we see the CRTPF and CRTLF commands and maybe the DDS for both. -- Tom

"the P1 not allowed as based on file"

There should be more messages in the joblog or compile listing.

First Guess:  When compiling the logical, the system might have found a file named P1 in the library list or current library that wasn't a physical file, or not the physical you expected.

Yes, you can create a LF over a PF in QTEMP. The QTEMP libraries just can't be in different jobs.

Do the files currently exist in the test environment? If so you have to delete the old logical, compile the new physical, the compile the ne logical.

By any chance was your PF created using a REF file ?

The "problem" is almost certainly something like creating a PF in QTEMP and then attempting to create a LF in QTEMP but in a different job. The PF might be created interactively and the LF in a submitted batch job. Or both could be done in separate batch jobs. Or...? Regardless, we need to see actual DDS specs and CRT*** commands before knowing anything useful. -- Tom
