SNDBRKMSG
Hi I need to send a failure notice to a user.I have used the SNDBRKMSG for this but the problem is if the user is that the job is scheduled to run in the night and if the user has logged of his session he may not be able to view it the next day. The basic purpose is to alert the user the moment he logs on that there was a failure.I dont want a mail to be sent.

I think you have a problem if it’s got to be a break message.
1. It can only be sent while the user is signed in
2. It must be sent to a workstation — not a user

But you will need to determine if the user is on line or hold the request until the user is on-line

Recommend a regular message or e-mail?

You can send break messages programatically, but I’m not sure what happens if they are signed off when using my method.

You can use the SNDMSG command to send a message to a particular user profile. However, the message will not break to the screen unless the user profile has delivery set to *BREAK and even then it will only break to the first signed on session. You would be MUCH better off using email if possible, even if all you have is SNDDST. It is a much better delivery method than break messages as well as having the added benefit of creating an audit trail.
