We have an internal Extranet with seperate infrasturcture (switches) Can I combine the extranet onto our customer lan using a private vlan and the customer switches instead of having two seperate switch infrastructure?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Yes, you can separate the networks using VLANs; however, you are then susceptible to Layer-2 attacks.  Here are the most common taken from Cisco documentation:

•MAC Flooding Attack
•802.1Q and ISL Tagging Attack
•Double-Encapsulated 802.1Q/Nested VLAN Attack
•ARP Attacks
•Private VLAN Attack
•Multicast Brute Force Attack
•Spanning-Tree Attack
•Random Frame Stress Attack
