Print a Barcode on a Microline 421 Printer (a dot matrix)
I have a client that uses 10 Mircroline 421 printers (a dot matrix) for purchase order, invoice, pick ticket, etc. They would like to print a barcode on them. The printer does have the capability to print barcodes. The printer is set to IBM emulation. I would like to use the barcode keyword in DDS for the printer file. But would not accept unless it is a AFPDS printer not SCS. So I changed the type to AFPDS, but it would not print. First the printer was hooked up with a crt with 4214 emulation with an address. I then hooked the printer with a PC to use Client Access. I set it up with print host transform *yes and model= *ibm42021. Now it prints but it prints everything on one line with wrapping. Cannot tell if the barcode printed. Is there anything I can do without using PCL language in the program?

Maggiebr, What are they chances of moving them to laserjet? We can eliminate the need for their pre-printed forms and generate an electronic form with will work with AS/400/IBM OS. We can translate language into PCL no problem.

Dear Barcodeexpert,

The client really doesn’t want to buy laserjet printers or get rid of preprinted forms unless they have no choice. If I must use PCL in my program, can you show me an example of a barcode for a 6 digit p/o#.
