Hi, I have a network with one domain controller and the controller is damaged (Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt. Windowsssystem32configsystem. I try to a repair but when it gets to load windows it crash with a code 16 error message. I think my only option is to re-create this domain controller but I like to use the same domain name. But it might says that the domain name already existed. I had around 20 computers running on this network and now all my accounts are lost. Not sure what to do. Any recommedations? <<I do not have a BDF or any backup>> Thank you.

Can't revive the server and no backup.... The domain name already exists error will not happen if you create a new domain in a new forest. Reinstall the OS completely to make sure there are no remaining issues. Afterwards, all you have to do it create the user accounts and rejoin the computers to the domain.

It is time consuming, but there is no other way if you only have 1 domain controller. That is why it is always recommended to have at least two domain controllers.
