What are the prerequisites for installing Spiceworks on our network? What type of account do I need to give it for scanning? Is it safe? How can I audit what the application is really doing for review?

I have been using spiceworks about 3 weeks. It is a good software.

I guess talking about safe, 1st, you will need to know where you are going to place your pc/server to run spiceworks (physical security). then from there, just create an account(s) for you and the others who will be monitoring the systems…you can actually create an admin id or reporting id…

for accounts to be provided for scanning, i use subset of administrator account…i believe that is more than enough. they too mention that passwords and encrypted, but I haven’t done much study on it yet or where the passwords are kept.

as for what the application is doing, there are some defaults settings that are there, but at the same time you can setup additional rules for it to check..
