I Have a Dell 2800 PowerEdge Server and Living in Florida we get alot of storms. When Power failure occurs sometimes the Back up Tape has not completed, it does not eject the tape. I understand that but, what do I do to make sure the Data is fully backed up on the tape, so that I can change the Back Up Tape? Back up and Change tape MON-FRI.

Software/Hardware used:
Server 2003 SBS SP2

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Are these full, incremental, or differential backups? Can you restart the backup job after the power failure? Depending on the backup software, if you restart the job it should pick up where it left off. Consult the backup software documentation.

address the power problem while you are at it. The source and target machines on capable UPS’ should make this a moot point.

If the data is on the backup server then probably all that is needed is to add a UPS. It needs to be protected from both brown (loss of power for a few seconds) and black outs (loss of power for a few minutes or more), and a good UPS will provide that. As a side point this type of interuption with the power can result in damaging spikes (extreamly high voltage) that can damage the equipment. For this reason all the electronic equipment should be protected by a good protector if a UPS is not warranted. I have found Tripplite and APC make the best UPS and protectors.

It is a Daily backup. The job shows complete but need to stop the tape from running and eject the tape to change the tape.

These are Daily back Ups, and replace the tapes everymorning when i arrive at work. We are using Symetac software. We have now found out that this problem occurs because of line voltage for spikes going up then down. We have a voltage regulator on order to stop this from happening. We use a UPS for the servers but the spikes are to quick. I have tried to go online to Symatec and try to find an answer but could not find the answers.
