Does anyone know what it meams to power cycle a server? I have seen the term used in relationship to both HP and Dell servers. Jim4522

Power cycling a server means to reboot the server.

It’s also called bouncing the server.

    The software on the servers allows you to reboot automatically. You also have the option of running command lines to do so. You could write batch files and use them as scripts for schedules tasks as well. -Schmidtw

    This is simply turning off the server power and turning it back on. However, some server operating systems require orderly shutdown and power should not be shut off without going through the proper shutdown steps for the operating system.
