I've used LaCie drives for some years now and am happy with their performance. Easy to set up - plug in and go -, and quick, so long as it's plugged into USB2. Quite robust too, which is useful given the portability factor.

There are several on the market these days…..I have tried some of them and know people who have tried others. I guess the best recommendation is to buy the one that suits your needs. USB 2.0 and the appropriate size. Be careful about price vs. features. In other owrds, do some homework. Consider what you are going to do with it and get one that is robust enough to handle being transported. The other option is to buy an enclosure and put in a hard drive of your favourite type. This has worked well for me.
