Anyone have a favorite tool they've used to implement port knocking or a similar stealth access scheme? (I have a few tools bookmarked, but would like to hear of first hand experiences.)

There are several. My favorite by far is Nmap by www.insecure.org.

It was originally written to run under Unix/Linux from a command line, but I believe that there are GUI and Windows versions as well. I should probably know that for a fact, but I’m a long-time command line user.

Given its "unsexy" stance and lack of press, many people aren't familiar with portknocking. Here's a great paper on exactly what it is and how it's used along with several tools that can be used.
