IN V5R4 Which ports need to be open…

Open where? Are you wanting to use IP packet filtering on your AS/400? Or are you opening firewall ports on your network?

What PC operating systems are being used? Microsoft has changed Windows Networking in Win2K/WinXP/Vista/Win7 for NETBIOS, NETBIOS over TCP/IP and I’m not sure what all else. It’s the Windows Networking ports that may be most important for mapped drives since that’s mostly what’s used.

General ports that might be related can be found in SERVERS AND PORTS REQUIRED BY ISERIES ACCESS FOR WINDOWS.

The main section in the APAR document that you might be interested in should be:

SERVER: NetServer
DEFAULT PORT: 137, 138, 139, 8474
DESCRIPTION: AS/400 NetServer allows access to
AS/400 integrated file system from Windows PCs

Any comments related to “NetServer” could also be useful to you, for example the comment about port 8474.

Any error conditions after those ports are open will likely indicate that some access supporting servers is needed, but it’ll depend on exactly what PC functions are running. Post more as needed.
