The purpose, for starters. pointing devices do just that – they allow the user to “point” to areas on the screen….think computer mouse, trackballs, touchpads. Scanning devices scan objects, whether they are photos, word documents or other text,  to copy or ‘capture’ them in file formats suitable for use electronically

    Scanners are used to save an image, usually a hardcopy/paper document for later use where as a pointer, usually a mouse, stylus and such is used to select something on the screen and then do something with that selection via an application.
