Ping Question
Hello

Backround info:
I have registered a host name with dyndns.org so that my ISP-provided IP address is attached to my chosen host name. I am running DirectUpdate client to inform dyndns.org of any change in my IP. Everything is in sync.

From my PC, I can ping the IP address but cannot ping the host I registered with dyndns.org. I am behind a US Robotics 8000A router and TrendMicro personal firewall. I have tried disabling all filtering from both parts but still cannot ping my host.

Note that using online traceroute services I can trace my ip using the hostname.

Can anyone help/suggest anything?
Thanks

Have you tried nslookup? This will tell you whether your name is resolving correctly or not. Also, go to www.dnsstuff.com were you will find many tests that you can run that may be able to yelp. Try ping from this web site.

This will also depend on your ISP. Adelphia, my ISP, blocks ALL ports, with the reasoning that if I run a web server, I could be spamming the world. I get no pings, telnet, http, etc..
