I have an Access 2007 Database for tracking daily time for 90+/- employees located on a shared network folder. To enter tasks and time, users click a batch file, which copies a separate .accde file to their C: drive and then opens the file. This .accde file contains a Form for data entry, linked tables to the main database and some queries to filter the various pick lists. All the data tables are in the main database, so really users are just “pushing” data from the form back to the main database.
My problem is the main database file gets bigger each day, not because of the data being stored, but it seems to grow each time a user runs the batch file and ‘connects’ to the main database. Not only does the file size increase 200-300 KB each day, the .accde file on the user’s C: drive becomes less responsive – sometimes requiring several minutes to open.
When I manually backup the main database from Access, the file size of the backup is only 2300 KB. I then replace the file with the backup and it works fast again, but only temporarily.
Any ideas or suggestions for improving this process would be appreciated.
