i have a project which was compiled and running on v5.4. Now i try to run the same in v6.1 then the performance issue is coming that the product is running very slowly. I have recompiled entire project in v6.1 and then tried again, now the performance improoved bit, but not like v5.1. Why the same project is behaving like this. I tried with a test program like above, there is a significant difference in performance betwen v5.4 and v6.1. What should i do to achieve the same performance in v6.1 like in v5.4.

Thanks in Advance,

AVVSN.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

We had a similar issue after purchasing P770 and upgrading to v6r1. We purchased two machines with the same setup one to be the Production(PRD) and other to be the Test. What we found out was our test machine is performing as expected while the PRD is not. Later we found out that the IBM has configured the SCSI Cables in a wrong method once that was fixed the machine performance improved.

AVVSN, You need to give us more information on the project you are talking about. I have upgraded multiple partitions from V5R4 to V6R1 and have not seen any performance degradation that I would attribute to the upgrade. With that said, did you run Object Conversion on the objects in this project ? If not, the system could be converting these objects the first time they are touched. Give us more info and maybe we can assist. Thanks, Bill Poulin

What kind of application is it? What does it do? What is it written in? An operating system upgrade carries a lot of implications. How was the system configured before? How is it configured now? Most subsystem descriptions should carry their attributes (e.g., work management) over during an upgrade. Have you verified that they did? Have you read through the i 6.1 Memo to users and verified that any relevant items were accounted for? Have you read through the i5/OS information overview and what's new topic to see what might need attention (e.g., for Database or for ILE RPG Programming or whatever is appropriate)? There are always lots of ways of doing things that don't work as well in later releases. These should be examined before upgrading in order to decide if application or environment changes should be made. Tom
