Hi Tom & AndreaF & all IT Pro & friends, I have to create a network shared folder name "abc"and a PDF file name "def" on the file I only want a user to read only other like copy, delete etc is not allowed on the properties under general i have tick "read only" The folder permission under security then Advanced under change permission i have add everyone then most of them i put deny only full control,list folder,read extended attributes, change permission is empty it work according to what i want .only read is able for everyone So now my problem is how to make PDF file inside this "abc" folder read only for everyone so user not able to delete & copy. Please assist. I appreciate if you can give me the answer. I am using 2008 server & win 7 as a client Regards,William

For the document, you can save it and make it password protected, if you are using Adobe Pro.  For the folder, you create a group and make it a Read-Only group, put all of the members in that group and give them access to that folder.  Now, they will only be able to open the documents and read them, not change or delete them.

    Are you using Security Groups in Active Directory  to try and lock these permissions down? Can you add any details about how you are trying to restrict access on this file? Is everything else in the same folder accessible, or all READ ONLY? More details would be helpful.

    ...on the client side the pdf file can still be delete & copy   Please explain what you mean by "on the client side", especially when you mention "copy". Clients can only read copies. If the document cannot be copied, it can never get from the server to the client in order to be read.   Describe how you expect this document to be used. Also describe a few actions that you do not want to happen to this document.   Tom
