I have a Dell laptop that was running Windows ME and has been upgraded to Windows XP with service pack 1. This laptop used to connect to my AS400 model 150 using IBM PC5250 emulation with no problem, now it will not. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Client Access but still have the same connection issue. I have checked the cable and it works on other PCs also running Windows XP with service pack 1. Can anyone suggest a fix? Thanks for your help.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

First are you connecting the the AS/400 name or IP address. Which ever it is try Pinging it. if that is ok. Then goto a command prompt and try to TELNET into the as/400 the command would be TELNET “IP Address or computer name” without the quotes and plug in your as/400 computer name or IP address. if that all goes well then try a newwer version of Client Access I believe some older versions have problems with XP.

If Pinging doesn’t work and you are using the AS/400 name edit your host file or start using the IP address instead. if none of that works let me know the results and I will try to help you more

good luck

I believe that W/XP only supports Client Access Express with the latest service pack (SI11806).

For the benefit of anyone else who might be having this problem, imazing directed me to the problem and the solution. The laptop had automatically assigned an IP address and subnet mask that was unrelated to the IP address and subnet mask the AS400 was on. The other PC that is attached to the AS400 that is working correctly had it's IP address manually assigned to one in the range of the AS400. When I changed to IP address and subnet mask of the laptop, it started working correctly. Thanks to imazing for your help and patience.

You may need to upgrade your Client access. With XP you must be on at least V5R1.
