 pc not starting anymore!
Windows 7, Windows 7 installation and setup
Um, i dont know if this is the best place to ask, but i recently build a pc. Its been fine until today. When i went to go press the power button, it shocked me. I didn't actually press the power button but the pc started by itself but after 2 seconds it shut off. Now, when i unplug and then plug it back in it just turns on then turns off after 2 seconds. What should i do! I spent a lot of money on this pc :(

I am guessing there are 2 possibilities.

1) Your power supply is fried
2) Your motherboard could have got static shocked and got fried.

So if it is still under warranty, better send it back and claim your warranty

You indicated that you built this system. A system that comes up then immediately shuts down could be either the MB or the PS. In my experience though it has been the PS that is bad when this happens. A bad PS will usually be shutdown by a working MB, but a bad MB might not shut down a working or bad PS once the PS starts, or perhaps not even allow the PS to start at all! Generally the PS is easier to obtain, swap out (and usually cheaper if you have to replace it) so I would start there. As mentioned above check on the warranty.

Ok, I tried plugging it into another motherboard I have (thats too old for my current build), but it did have an indicator led which was on, telling me the psu is alright and its definately the motherboard. now to contact foxconn.

if your side has a lot of shocks / static, maybe you would like to get a voltage stabilizer for your pc

“but i recently build a pc.” and “I spent a lot of money on this pc :“….. OK, why did u try it with ur own risk !! First clear that, is it a Branded / Assembled….. So why did u worry for that…. just call / ask the vendor from where u bought the new pc and don’t take risk at urself. If u break the seal then the vendor will also not to agree to do anything for ur pc. There r so many ways to check a dead pc, but I am not going to suggest u cause it is a new pc. If ur pc is under guarantee / warranty, then do what I suggested / my opinion. Now its totally depends on u.
