PC failure when connected to external hard drive

When 1.5 TB WD external hard drive is connected to the PC, it recognised the device but after 2 minutes the PC goes down and never turns off again

Software/Hardware used:
External Hard Drive 1.5 TB from WD

Check following things
1) IS it working with another system,
2) Check for event viewer
3) remove usb driver and install it once again, then reconnect it once again

    When you boot the computer back up (without the hard drive connected), go into your Event Viewer and check the System log. What do you see for the time when the computer recognized the drive, through the shutdown? That will give you some idea what you're looking at, to start.
