Passwords stored in Plain Text?

I joined a forum a while back and hadn't returned for a while. In the meantime, I forgot my password. When I returned and clicked their "Request Help With Password link", they sent me my password in Plain Text via email instead of sending me a unique link to reset my password. I would imagine the the password must be stored in Plain Text somewhere in the database. Am I correct in this assumption?

For many forums, I don't doubt that it could be stored in plain-text. There might be no perceived problem due to inaccessibility of any password container or to the relatively trivial nature of the site. Or it might be stored encrypted, but decrypted before it's sent to you. I've seen more troublesome situations than a plain-text forum password.

Regardless, it's probably not a good practice.

Only the forums' admin or developer(s) know for sure. You should ask them.

Like Tom said, it's not really a good idea to send someone their password in plain text.
