Partition Creation Error

When trying to create a partition on a logical drive I receive the following error message: 'The Operation was cancelled due to an Internal error' and the partition failed to create. I have tried deleting the array and recreating the logical drive but it failed to resolve the issue. I have run hardware diagnostics in which everything passed and nothing is showing up in the event viewer. Any help would be much appreciated. Windows 2003 SP2. Thanks Grant

Hello Grant,
First I would like to understand is the server is on cluster environment. If so you can try stopping the cluster service and try the partition. It will work & later you can start the cluster service. If its the standalone server, you can remove the spindles swap it on different bays and try it. If you are using 4 disks for example, try removing one and try partition with rest3. Like that you can find out where the exact issue is.
If its the hi-end server, then in the boot up screen shows the RAID configurations. Check whether you had missed out anything on the RAID side.

If none of these works, don’t mind elaborating exactly what you are doing.

Thanks,
Guru

Hi Guru, It is a standalone server. What is stange is that the partition and drive were working fine for months until one day this week the drive became inaccessible. Are you thinking this is a hardware issue rather than a software issue. Many thanks Grant
