Most likely, you won't need any backups at all. But if you need restores, you'll need restores of system functions too.

However, if a real full-system save has previously been done, that can probably work fine along with what you have.

If one never has been done, then it's basically going to be a scratch install anyway. You'll need all of the media for system functions -- at V5R1, you need to be sure that all of it exists, including license keys. (You might want to export all of those ahead of time -- review DSPLICKEY OUTPUT(*LICKEYFILE) and ADDLICKEY LICKEYINP(*LICKEYFILE) just in case.)

Tom,

Since I'm conducting the backup remotely I don't have access to the console. So, basically I want to perform a backup of all the critical data or close enough to option 21.

The system is going to be relocated to a different location this upcoming weekend and I just want to be careful in case we need to recover.

I think I have everything that we need but I'm just trying to cover all bases.

I'm not clear what you mean by "close enough for a full system backup".

Close enough for what purpose? It certainly leaves out some of the most important parts of "full system" backups... e.g., the operating system and any IBM product libraries. Usually those don't need to be saved more than once a year or so, so it might not be a big deal to skip them.

Charlie, unfortunately I cannot do that. I'm doing this remotely and I don't have access to the sys console. That is the main reason why I'm doing this in steps.
Thanks for the info.
