Display file level check identifier change

If a record is new, it won’t be in any programs yet; so DSPPGMREF won’t show the relevant format ID. But, yes, “files” don’t have format level IDs; only record formats have format level IDs. A new record format can’t cause a format level check. — Tom

Use DSPFD to see the record formats in the display file

Display file level check identifier change

Each record of the display file has a seperate level indentifier.
Programs check the record formats that are used in the program but not any others. Therefore, adding a format does’t require recomile of the application programs/

Show error message to user after a CPYF command ended in error in CL program

We need to know how this programming is going to run. If we don’t know the execution environment, particularly how the display is being controlled, we can’t tell how messages might be displayed. — Tom

Display file level check identifier change

i just wanted to add one more screen file in this case

1. Do i need to compile the Display file ?
.
Yes. You can’t add record formats without compiling them.
.
2. If compile the Display File, its linked with many RPG, CL programs, So obviously i have to compile all the programs.
.
Why is it obvious? Are you going to change the record formats that are already in the file?
.
3. How can i do this easily.?
.
How can you do what easily? Compile the display file? Just run CRTDSPF like always.
.

SFTP

You need to think through your requirements. They are self-contradictory, and they need to be clarified.

.
Since sftp is technically a Unix tool, it isn’t written to understand physical file “members” that mostly exist only in the AS/400 world. You should supply data that sftp AND the remote system understand. If your physical file data is encoded in EBCDIC, it’s not going to be useful when it arrives on some remote system that probably uses an ASCII kind of encoding. And your physical file already exists in the IFS, so your statement that you “cannot have this unencrypted file in the IFS, even temporarily” makes no sense unless your PF is encrypted already. If it is encrypted, it’s probably going to be a mess when it’s decrypted as ASCII (if the remote system uses ASCII).
.
What is the remote platform? Can you show an example of lines from a file that they expect to receive?
.

Is there any software which can automatically track my link servers?

Please explain your question more. What is a “link server”? Are you asking about a “web server”? What do you want to “track”? Do you want to track users who connect to your web server? Or do you want to track which links are taken on your PC? It isn’t clear what you want to do. — Tom

Most modern type

Most modern what? (Televisions? Telephones? Tablets? Computer monitors? Small display panels?) Most durable for what uses? (Military? Industrial? Common consumer? Toys?) Most repairable by whom? What “spare parts” would you need? The actual display elements generally aren’t “repairable” by anyone. Spare parts don’t make much sense for things that can’t be repaired. If you gave some context, the questions might make more sense. — Tom

How to move an AS/400 numeric field to an alphanumeric field without disturbing the value in it?
“…getting the value -.50 to a char -0.50. This is possible?”

It’s possible, though it has some very specific requirements. You’re asking for a leading sign instead of a trailing sign. And you’re also asking for a leading zero before the decimal point.

.
The first things we need to know are the definitions of the numeric and character fields. Then we need to know if you want the value left- or right-justified. Finally, we should know what you need the character field for. Is this going to be displayed on a screen? Put in a database file? Printed on a report? There are multiple methods that can be different for different uses.

What do you think of this shift from desktops to mobility?

Mobile devices are definitely the new desktop…to an extent. I suspect we’ll always have some form of “traditional” desktop environments. There are too many people in IT, development, and elsewhere that need bigger, faster, better computing options rather than fat-fingering data entry into a low-horsepower mobile device.

Many of the same security challenges exist with mobile and quite a few are amplified. It’s time we shift our thinking as I talk about here: http://securityonwheels.blogspot.com/2011/11/mobile-devices-are-new-desktop-what-to.html.

How has your company coped with ‘cloud-washing’?

I see this everywhere. Even in retail electronics stores – it seems that half of the products being sold are “cloud” this or that. It’s very frustrating for me as a technical guy working in the field. I can’t imagine how confusing it must be to many others. Definitive case of buyer beware. If you stick with focusing on what you need, you’ll come across the right “cloud” solutions.

Here are a few more of my thoughts in something I wrote nearly two years ago…nothing has changed.

Connecting ethernet ports on Cisco 2811

Sounds like a routing issue. Each workstation will need the IP of the VLAN on the router as the gateway, and there will need to be routes to the LAN at the far end.

Try a ping to the router interfaces of the remote LAN, if this works, then the issue is the gateway config of the workstation. If you can not, then it is a route issue.

Post more information if this does not help, and we will se what we can do to help you further.
