Hi All, I have a series of questions I would like to discuss few of them here. I'll post them in a different threads so that it will be easier to track them: AS 400 question 1: When you say that an OVRDBF and an OPNQRY creates a temporary logical file, - Say I am just using OVRDBF and not OPNQRY. Will a temp logical be created? - Or say I am just using OPNQRY and not OVRDBF, will a temp LF be created here? As per my understanding, An OVRDBF doesn't create a temporary logical file, an OPNQRY creates a temporary logical. Overrides just change the name of the file, name or member that should be processed by the OPNQRY. Please correct me if this is wrong. Thanks.

It is as correct as most programmers would answer. Naturally, the full explanation of either OVRDBF or OPNQRYF would take pages to explain fully. The short answers might be best. OVRDBF does not create a LF. Technically, I don't think OPNQRYF should be said to create a LF either; but programs that read from its result act as if a LF was created. -- Tom
