Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Calculate the # of recs using
32K/rec size -1

Hope this helps

I would need more information to determine where the performance problem occurs, i.e., approx number of records selected, size of file being queried, batch or interactive process, slow as in seconds or minutes. Performance trade-offs between using opnqryf or a logical is dependent upon usage frequency and development resources. My experience regarding performance usually allows the OS to determine the optimal method rather than forcing operations. What is the significance of 32k?

Have you tried the app w/o specifying the 32k? I still do not know how many recs are involved. I did decrease processing time by 90 minutes using the OPTIMIZE(*MINWAIT) parameter in the OPNQRYF command for an application. Generally, I prefer to let the OS calculate optimization figures.
