I am using command OVRDBF to override my database physical file suppose "ABC " (file to be overridden) and second physical file let "DEF" (the one with which we are overriding) now I execute this command: OVRDBF FILE(ABC) TOFILE(LIBRARY/DEF).

After the execution of this command when I use the command RUNQRY *N ABC, it is showing me the records of DEF, which is correct but the same is not working with the command UPDDTA, I execute the command :- UPDDTA FILE(LIBRARY/ABC), and add data into it.

What I expect is that the data should go into DEF file but instead it is going into ABC only which has been overridden by DEF. Please anyone tell me what's going wrong and all the possibilities or is it that the OVRDBF command doesn't have any effect on UPDDTA command?

I don't see UPDDTA listed as one of the commands that are unaffected by OVRDBF, but I'm not surprised. It's a DFU command, so it needs to use various APIs to retrieve attributes of all file columns. The APIs almost always ignore overrides out of necessity, so DFU probably must ignore them also. . Tom

Tom is correct. DFU Commands have never worked with OVRDBF
