Outlook Web Access (OWA) and Exchange 2003 Public Folders issue

OWA, Outlook Web Access, Exchange 2003, Outlook, Public folders

A question submitted on SearchExchange.com

I have run into an issue dealing with OWA and Exchange 2003 Public Folders. When using OWA, I am able to see the "shared contacts" public folder that I have created and I can see those existing contacts in addition to being able to add a new contact. The problem that I have come across is that I am unable to send an email to any particular contact. For example, I open an existing contact and see the populated information but the "email contact" icon is grayed out. I CANNOT initiate a new email window from this window like I could if I were using MS Outlook. Any ideas? From what I have found in my research, this is a bug that Microsoft is aware of but no fix or update is available.

If this is a new issue, you can try reinstalling Exchange using the setup wizard or with the /disasterrecovery command line switch. This will install Exchange on top of itself keeping the existing settings.

I have a new problem, which I do not know if related; but my problems came all together: every minute or so, I get an error message.

ERROR IN BACHGROUND SYNCHRONISATION. IN MOST CASES, FURTHER INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE IN A SYNCHRONISATION LOG IN THE DELETED ITEMS FOLDER

I went to the folder, took note of the “relevant message” and deleted it. But the error keeps coming back!!
Can you help??
