Outlook pst files
I'm running Windows XP and Outlook 2007. I have recently had to replace one of my hard disks but have a backup copy of this disk and the original disk. I understand that I should have a *.pst file containing past emails, contacts etc. I have searched all the disks but cannot find this file. Is it created automatically or do I have to active an option. Help appreciated since loss of my past emails would cause me serious trouble.

In case your PST file is hidden, make sure you have enabled the ‘Show hidden files and folders’ setting on your drive’s folder options.
Thanks to all the problem is partly solved. I followed Ugauga’s advice and located the *.pst file on the old corrupted hard drive I had removed. I then looked at Microsoft’s article on how to repair e-mail messages and tried to follow their advice. In the end, I cut and pasted the Outlook.pst file from the corrupt hard disk into the C:documents and settingsUSERlocal settingsapplication dataMicrosoftOutlook file. The result is that all my emails have been restored into the current Inbox although the folders have not been restored. In the location, I now have extend.dat outlook.pst and personal folders(1).pst. I guess I can go through all the emails and transfer them to new folders to match what I had before. At least, I have the emails! Any further advice welcome but, in the meantime, many thanks to both of you. This is my very first visit to the itknowledgeexchange and it has certainly proved profitable!
