I have outlook 2000 running on a standalone comp. running w2k pro. After logging on to my profile and then opening outlook, it can't connect to the server. a reboot solves this problem, but i shouldn't have to do that. Any ideas whatthis could be? thanks

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Welllllll….Outlook is a resource hog. You don’t give details as to processor, RAM, HD, etc. Have you investigated CPU usage, RAM installed, tweaking virtual memory, etc.

When a reboot solve this problem, the first thing I would look at is diminished resources. This can be due what you have running simoultaneously, or just not enough RAM on the system.

Has this surfaced recently with no changes to the box? Has this been an ongoing thing that has recently worsened?

More info please.

512MB ram, don't see any resource prob. only NAV and a firewall running...no other apps. Can't recall any changes that were made that would result in this problem. that's why i'm trying to get other opinions

Although I appreciate the info of ram and programs running, I think the culprit would be in the PROFILE you are trying to change too. Check permissions, groups, etc...

sorry for the double barrel post..not sure what happened there.. thanks for info.....the only other thing i've seen cause this with Outlook is a hosed registry setting. Do a registry repair with a tool like RegFixer and see if it will bring it around. Also, as per previous post, look in your different profiles and make sure that you don't have conflicting info in the setups.

If you have NAV configured to scan emails, this could be the problem. It isn't really neccessary to scan emails until after they download so it not a security problem to turn it off.

check the network path see if you can ping the server by name and IP address before and after starting outlook. then if these both work check the profile and see if it is set up right.
