Outlook Login error – boot to safe mode and try to recover

We are a large organization (25000 +) employees. 1 user is working fine for months, then tries to log in 1 day and gets an error = can not open Outlook / boot to safe mode and try to recover. I created a new user profile and she worked ok for rest of the day. Next morning - same "boot to safe mode" error. I have reimaged the laptop, but am wondering if you have an explanation of why this occurred. 

Software/Hardware used:
HP nc6400, XP, MS Office 2007, Exchange client, ie 7.0

I have seen this before. Can you export all the data from the pst to a new pst and see if the problem is resolved? Is the problem fixed after reimaging? Did the reimage include the pst?

When in Safe Mode, did you check the Trust Center for COM add-ins and
uncheck each one? Then start Outlook in regular mode. If Outlook starts
then, you can try enabling your add-ins one by one (restarting Outlook each
time) to see which one causes the hang/problem.

    Possible corruption in the mailbox . Use Exmerge if you have Exch 2003 to export and then import .pst files. If you have exch 2007/2010 , get it to work for a day and export/import .pst files. What events are generated in eventvwr. Does this user have similar behavior on another machine.or can another user use Ol on this machine . I would use procmon . that will give loads of info .
