I just started getting the “contacting the server” message (which
COMPLETELY froze Outlook until manually forced to close) today after
using Office/Outlook 2007 and Windows XP for several years. I tried
various suggestions without any luck. I realized my C: drive containing
the operating system was dangerously full. Since allocating more space
to that partition, I haven’t received the error. (Hopefully my
experience will spark an idea that will help someone else.)

Hi,

Thanks for your reply Sixball

the message appears randomly throughout the day. However I think I have just fixed it, or to be more precise I've got round it.

I changed my setting for Compose Messages in HTML to Compose Messages in rtf and now the warning doesn't appear. I inferred from reading some forums that it is something to do with HTML

I can only assume that I have up until today been using rtf and perhaps accidentally changed it to HTML.

As to why this has fixed it is another question.

Thanks,

Marek.

Does this message appear when you first open outlook? or does it give the message randomly throughout the day?

We'd need a bit more info to be able to give you a solid answer. Based on what you have shared, it sounds like you should edit/check the pop3 server settings in outlook.
