Outlook 2007 can't delete from deleted items
Some time ago, I was checking my email when we had a brief but sudden power outage. This totally screwed up Outlook 2007. I was in the process of emptying out my Junk mail when it happened. After the power came back on, I went back to my email and the junk mail that I was deleting was in the deleted items folder but Outlook would not let me delete it!! I somehow created a secondary folder in the deleted items folder and was able to transfer those undeletable emails to isolate them. At least that way, I could kind of control new junk and deleted items in the Deleted items folder. Until today when the blasted power went out again for just a few seconds. Now, I can't delete anything from my Deleted Items folder!!!

I am running Outlook 2007, WinXP. I ran a 'repair' from the Office installation disc and it ran smoothly. I re-booted, but still cannot delete these blasted items!! I went looking for the scanpst.exe file to run but can't find it anywhere on my computer (thought that my Office repair would have re-installed it).

I copied my .pst files to a folder on my desktop to 'backup' my emails, but I don't know what the heck I'm doing and I'm so tired of searching the internet until I found this site. Can anyone PLEASE help me???

Thank you very much,
Sue

Answer Wiki:
Have you tried to delete them in safe mode ?

To start outlook in safe mode go to start -> Run, then type: outlook /safe

As it happens I JUST had this exact same issue with someone yesterday. However the person I was working with had an exchange account and I could delete the items using mfcmapi. That was the only thing that worked. Have you done a repair of your pst? scanpst is one option.

That doesn’t work to go to Run and type outlook/safe, it says that it can’t find ‘outlook/safe’. Maybe if I just re-boot in safe mode?

It is: outlook<space>/safe

Thanks for the clarification, I didn’t see the <space> there. Anyway, that didn’t work.

Since then, I found my scnpst.exe file and ran that successfully, twice, did a hard re-boot and tried again to delete, still had problems.

At this point, I honestly don’t know what else I’ve done after that, but whatever the heck I did, I was able to delete

    some

of the messages that were in that folder. However, there is a sub-folder in the Deleted Items from last year when during deleting messages we had another sudden power outage and the same thing happened. Somehow I was able to move all of those undeletable emails into a new folder, but could not delete them and STILL cannot delete them nor move them. Any more ideas or help? Please.

Hi,
There is some problemou with your PST file. You can use Outlook recovery tools to repair your PST file. Below is a list of them:

Most of them provide a free demo so you can try first.
