Outlook 2003 “message size” error (0×80040610) will not go away since task was cancelled
After sending an Outlook 2003 email with >64MB of .exe utilities in it, I realized (a) the .exe files would get stripped by the recipient's firewall and (b) the message size was probably too large anyway. So, I deleted the message in the Sent Items folder. Now Outlook reports error 0x80040610 "...message being sent exceeds the message size established for this user." This error message will not go away. When I select Cancel All, I get, "Task 'unknown task' reported error (0x80048002): This task was cancelled before it was completed.' " How can I get rid of this annoying error message?

Answer Wiki:
Try adding a new profile through the mail icon in the control panel. If it works without the error then move the mail from the old profile into the new one. Is this an exchange mailbox or a POP3 account with a pst file?

While preparing to implement your suggestion, I discovered that the cancelled email was still stuck in the MS Exchange Server because it exceeded the file size limit. One of our IT professionals was able to delete the file and the annoying error message has now gone away.
