Good afternoon all, we have a user running Outlook 2003 and MS Office 2003. When she attempts to open a new email, she get a prompt that say it is opening MS Word 2003 as the email editor, but it never opens. Tried unchecking it as the editor, but the user can't live with out the auto correct and other features. Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

This problem can occur if Outlook has to wait while Word is busy. If the wait is long, Outlook appears not to be responding.

Does word start normally on its own?

Note Beginning with Microsoft Office 2003, Word is set by default as the e-mail editor. Before Office 2003, the Outlook Email Editor was set as the default.

To work around this problem, close Word and then try to create a new message in Word.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

Before following these steps, save the contents of any open Microsoft Word documents.

  1. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your keyboard.
  2. Click Task Manager.
  3. Click the Processes tab.
  4. Click WINWORD.EXE, and then click End Process. A Task Manager Warning dialog box will appear.
  5. Click Yes to confirm that you want to end the WINWORD.EXE process.

I know you can not live without Word as your email editor so I won’t even suggest that. But if you are sure the problem is with Outlook and not Word you can run ScanPST from Microsoft found at there download site.
