Q:
Outlook 2002 SP3 crashes
Running Windows XP, Outlook 2002 Crashes when opening; no error message. I've run current virus scans and new virus software. Anything bad was quarantined. I found the Outlook inbox scan & repair .exe file and ran that on both .pst files -- found nothing. Suggestions on what to try next?

Reinstall Outlook. Then reconfigure your outlook profile. Make sure to check that everything is working before you add the PST files in case they are causing the problem.

You can try removing your outlook profile and re-adding it with a different name first. You can do this from the control panel mail icon. Go to show profiles, remove the existing profile and add a new one. You can then re-import the pst from the old profile. If this does not work try opening outlook in safe mode. Go to start - run - type outlook.exe /safe. If it opens successfully you may have a problematic add-in. I don't recall how disable add-ins with Outlook 2002, but I am sure you can find that in the outlook help files.
Also, check through your add/remove programs in the control panel and look for multiple tool bars and other troublesome programs which may have been installed (web smileys and such come to mind), these can add things to outlook which cause it to crash. Uninstall them. Good luck to you! :-)

“Anything bad was quarantined”
Does this mean that you had a virus ?

If so, the virus could have corrupted some files/programs, and you might need to re-install Outlook.
