Q:
Outlook 2002 Is there a way to allow my mailbox rules to automatically forward to external addresses but keep this disabled for all other users?
I have recently taken a position as LAN Admin with a company after over 12 years of IT work. Most of my time was spent with Novell and GroupWise. The company is on Outlook 2002 clients with Exchange 2003. Several systems are already set to send email alerts of server related issues to my inbox. I'd like to have some of those automatically forward to my cell phone when they require immediate attention. Exchange is set to not allow automatic forwarding and I don't want to enable this for all users in our domain. Is there a way to allow my mailbox rules to automatically forward to external addresses but keep this disabled for all other users?

To set up forwarding on a per-user basis you have to create a contact in AD with an e-mail
address you want to forward to, then set up forwarding on the user account properties on the Exchange General Tab in AD. This way you can still leave automatic forwarding to the internet disabled.

This would work to forward all emails to my external address, but I only want to forward emails to my external address that require immediate attention.

Well unfortunately I can’t think of a way to accomplish that without opening up forwarding for everyone.
