My old web server has just gone pop and I want to replace it with a low end Dell PowerEdge server. I have a few questions.
I want to drop in my own pair of SATA drives rather than buy from Dell.
I plan to install Ubuntu Server Edition and use software RAID1. Please tell me if this is a mistake or if it's doomed to fail! Dell make no mention of support for Ubuntu, but I'm hoping this isn't an issue?
Which Cn option should I select when placing the order (C1, C2, C3, etc) or does it not matter?
Any help or advice appreciated. For reference, I want to use Ubuntu Server as that is what was running on my now dead server, albeit without RAID, which I have no experience of.
Or should I just go for Dell hardware RAID and not worry about it?
