My organization currently uses Office 365. Whenever I try to open up a Word or Excel document through our SharePoint site, it always opens in the online editor in the browser. I have Office 2013 installed on my desktop. How can I get these documents opened on my desktop? Thank you.

Open SharePoint, then click the gear icon in the upper right corner & select Site Settings. From this page goto the Site Collection Administration section, click on Site collection features. There is an option like Open Documents in Client Applications by Default which is might be inactive. First of all Activate it. That will configure SharePoint links to open in client applications instead of web applications. Next go through the page and select On Open in the client application (Radio button). This may be vary version to version.

Besides the solution Subhendu gave, is there a problem you are facing that you need to open them with the client side app? Just curious if there is a SharePoint or Office 365 issue that cannot be resolved.
