What is the hardest or most costly (whether it be time, money or pride) lesson you or your company has learned regarding security?
We want to hear your security-related stories, concerns and blunders in the discussion area. The most entertaining or insightful stories have 200 knowledge points waiting for them.

This seems to be a pretty quiet thread. Personally, I thought of a number of possible comments before settling on one that I felt comfortable with — “Someone else knows more.”
I regularly surprise myself over details that I thought I ‘knew’. I can’t think of another security-related lesson that is more important both to learn and to stay conscious of.
I’m not likely to provide examples of situations that brought the lesson back to light over the years.

Thanks for sharing, Tom!
Hopefully we’ll get more discussion and suggestions of specific situations that our users have run into. It seems like IT security gets put on the back burner until vulnerabilities become threats, and the delicate art of crafting and implementing security policies is trial and error at best.
Feel free to come back and share any new insights as they come!
Thanks,
Melanie
