At this time I currently manage 8 cloud servers. Seven Linux and one Windows. I have done a pretty good job with securing both provided interfaces on each server but I would like to have some external options. It would be nice if cloud providers would provide customers access to an external firewall with application layer inspection capabilities. I managed a cloud server hosted by 1and1 for a little while and I know they provide an interface to configure an external firewall. This made me feel a little more secure. I believe they were using the virtual interface capabilities of the Cisco ASA firewalls. Other providers may be doing this as well but not the one I am currently using and they are well known.
