There are at least 3 basic things that could imply cost:

    1) Development of the site
    2) Domain
    3) Hosting

    1) If you have the appropriate knowledge you could build your own site, so you would only need to spend your time.

    2) Domains are usually cheap (about $12 - $15 / year, and sometimes the first year is much more cheap).

    3) Hosting prices may vary, but you can usually get a decent hosting plan for 1 site for about $40 - $50 / year.

There might exist cheaper options.  I'm just not sure how good they would be.

I've been using Godaddy for domains and hosting for several years now.  Their prices are usually very accessible, and the staff very friendly. Performance and availability of the sites has been acceptable.

Same here. I've used GoDaddy for a while. They offer many hosting options depending on what your needs are. They also host for different operating systems as well. Check them out. I use to use 1&1 for hosting but I dropped them. Did not offer enough for the money like go daddy.
